The Governor General and the Order of Canada

With three other holders of the Order of Canada 

I was delighted to have a good hour’s conversation 

with His Excellency during the first visit of 

any governor general to California.

I found H. E. David Johnson tremendously 

well-suited to enormous task. He was head 

of McGill University for twenty years, is 

extremely articulate, friendly, personable, 

with a colossal vision for Canada as a caring nation. 

Meeting him was an absolute joy and made me 

even prouder to be a Canadian.
